Special Guest: Lori Noordergaaf, M.Ed., education consultant from the New Hampshire Department of Education Bureau of Special Education will attend the presentation to answer questions, participate in discussions and provide clarification as needed regarding school based goals. We are very excited that Lori will be joining us!
Description: Determining and writing functional and measurable pediatric school based and clinic based goals can be a challenge. Join us as we present strategies to make this process more efficient. We will explore various assessment tools as well as simple observational measures that are available to help evaluate a child and develop measurable functional goals. When discussing school based goals, we will analyze how a well written IEP is dependent upon knowledge about curriculum and effective instructional practice. Constructing measurable and functional physical therapy goals are an important part of planning for children’s individual and unique needs. As we delve into clinic based goals, we will take into consideration the role insurance companies play in goal development.
Objectives:
1. Participants will identify components of school based goal writing including including present level of functional performance, present level of academic achievement, and functional and measurable goals.
2. Participants will identify components of long and short term goals for outpatients based on the requirements of the New Hampshire managed care organizations.
3. Participants will participate in active discussion regarding goal writing, demonstrating progress through standardized testing, and educationally versus medically relevant goals.
