Description: More Americans are identifying as members of the LGBTQIA+ community year after year. While this may show a positive shift in people feeling more open to discuss their sexual identity and/or gender identity, there continues to be high rates of healthcare discrimination amongst this population. The better we can understand
people the better we can meet their health care needs, reduce adverse outcomes and reduce healthcare discrimination.
Objectives:
 To have an increased understanding of unique LGBTQIA+ needs and health disparities
• To learn new skills & techniques for interacting with LGBTQIA+ patients
• To demonstrate the importance of and methods of creating an LGBTQIA+ inclusive healthcare environment
• To learn how to go from cultural competency to a cultural ally
• To have a brief understanding of the complex therapies and surgical procedures some transgender people experience
